Although there are no Stryker soldiers featured I wanted to share this collection of images from Afghanistan by The Big Picture blog. Description:
Today's entry is the first of a new regular feature on the Big Picture: a monthly focus on Afghanistan. From now on, I will post such an entry at least once every month as long as necessary. Violence in Afghanistan has reached its most intense of the eight-year-old war despite record levels of U.S. and NATO troops being sent to fight the Taliban. July and August were the two deadliest months to date for coalition forces, and September is already the 3rd-deadliest, with 38 U.S. deaths - 68 total including all coalition members. With an apparently resurgent Taliban and over 120,000 foreign troops on the ground, and a recent push for the U.S. to consider sending 40,000 more (beyond the additional 21,000 troops still committed but yet undeployed), the situation in Afghanistan could possibly become even more intense in the near future. Collected here is a one-month collection of photos related to Afghanistan for September, 2009.
Someone emailed asking about the GMAV video we featured a few weeks ago. I tried to respond via email but it bounced back to me several times, so I'm posting my response here. The videos are all hosted at the DVIDS website, and can be downloaded from there.

I came across this image on the DVIDS site. Caption:

U.S. military Stryker vehicles move in a convoy down a main highway in a Sunni populated area in Baghdad August 5, 2006. Several Stryker vehicles were seen Saturday in Baghdad's mostly Sunni neighborhood of Ghazaliyah, where Iraqi police used loudspeakers to encourage residents to go about their business and reopen shops because the additional troops were there to protect them. As part of a campaign to curb sectarian violence in Baghdad, the U.S. Army transferred 3,700 soldiers of the 172nd Stryker Brigade from northern Iraq to the capital to reinforce U.S. and Iraqi security forces. Additionally, now that the holidays are over Mr. Davis would like to send the display to the 3rd Brigade, 2nd Infantry Division for them to have. If you or someone you know has the authority to find an appropriate spot at Ft. Lewis for the collage could you please send an email to todd(at)strykernews.com? Thanks.

Originally he created the album to share a few of the photos he took at the recent 3/2 SBCT homecoming ceremony. If you don't have a compatible software program you can download the latest version of the Windows Media Player at the Microsoft website. If you still have problems leave a comment here and perhaps collectively we can figure out a solution.

I forgot to mention yesterday that the reporters covering the 133rd Engineer Battalion from Maine also have a photo gallery of FOB Marez that I'm sure they will be adding to. Visit the paper's Iraq War page and click on the "Photo Galleries" and "Letters Home" links on the right hand side to view the pictures. I know that the 296th BSB is also stationed at Marez, so be sure to take a look. Nice gym.

There are five new photos of Stryker troops in action at the Yahoo! News site. Three were taken after the attack on a Humvee on Friday (one, two, three). Contrary to earlier news reports, the caption for one photo said that no one was injured. The other two photos were taken after SBCT soldiers responded to a mortar attack on a political office in Mosul on Saturday (four, five).

Mel found some photos (2 that I could find) of Stryker soldiers in a Yahoo! News slideshow. Here's the first; click "Next" to see the second.
UPDATE: Hhhmmm...it seems that they keep adding photos to the slideshow, which makes the link above useless. Some good advice from the comments is to go to the Yahoo! News page and type "Stryker" or "Mosul" into the search option.
There are a couple new albums here and here. Additionally, A Troop, 1-14 CAV has added photos of the memorial the brigade held for SGT Robbins and SGT Wong.
New albums here, here and here. Additionally, the soldiers in A Troop, 1-14 CAV set up an album of their own, and I've added some new ones to my album. Did I forget anyone?

We have a few new albums in our Photo Gallery.
A couple people have sent us the same collection of photos taken last spring as coalition forces advanced through Iraq. Rather than post them again here, we thought we would point you to another site that already has the photos displayed. The last photo of Baker Company is one that I linked to back in September. Very moving.
We have another new album in our Photo Gallery.
There are a few photos of the transfer of authority ceremony in Mosul between the 101st and the Stryker Brigade. They're towards the end of the slideshow.
The Frontline Photos that were not displaying correctly last week can now be viewed. They are worth waiting for.

Melody found a story with a link to some ABC video news coverage of the Stryker Brigade as it rolled into Mosul on January 12th. The link is on the right hand sight of the story.
You'll need Quick Time installed to play the video portion. I haven't been able to get it to play, but that's likely operator error.
UPDATE: Looks like no one can play the video. I sent a message to KOMO to see if they can give us some advice. I'll let you know if/when I hear back.
UPDATE II: Here's what the guy at KOMO said:
"I have just checked this on Comcast cable modem outside our system. It works fine. If you have anything less than DSL or cable it probably won't work. Also, if you do have cable or DSL, make sure your QuickTime player is set to port 80 on the transport. This is set in the preferences of the player."
Check your settings and try again.
There are a number of Stryker pictures today at Frontline Photos. For some reason many of the photos are not displaying correctly right now, so check back periodically to see if the problem has been fixed.
Thanks to Steve for the notice.
Direct from Mosul, here is a poster created by the Brigade 31U Team, which it wanted to share with all of you. I ran across this web site maintained by a pilot, CPT. John C. Tucker, 1-4 AVN Regt. over in Iraq. He has some great pictures on his pages. So far, I have only found one Stryker vehicle photo.
UPDATE: We removed this entry for the time being b/c there was sensitive information listed on the page we linked to. I'll contact the site and let them know what our concerns are. If they change it I'll put the link back up.
Dan forwarded a link to some great Stryker vehicle photos at the Fort Wainwright website.
UPDATE: A couple of the photos now adorn the site banner up top.
Winds of Change has the additional photos of Saddam's capture that have been floating around the net for the past week or so. Jerry sent these to me as well, but since the WOC team already has them up, I'll send you there.
The photo that seems surreal is where he is sitting in the kitchen by himself, with the sugar and coffee maker on the counter behind him. I don't know why that one seems so strange to me?
Also, while you're over there check out their great entry, "How to Support the Troops." Some good ideas to be found.
MOSUL, IRAQ (January 16, 2004):

The article includes a photo of the ceremony as well.
UPDATE: Here's an Associated Press article describing the transfer as well.
Scott forwarded a link to a great Stryker presentation from the Army website. Follow this link, which will take you to a map of the U.S. Click your mouse on the dot in California, which will take you to a multimedia presentation about the Stryker. The presentation includes three separate video clips, plus some other detail about the Stryker vehicle and its personnel. If you only want to view the video clips, try this link.
FYI - be prepared to wait if you have a slow connection.
Stuart has more photos of the Stryker Brigade up at his site. The newest ones begin at #38.
