The Iraqis "are coming to us with missions now, we don't have to go to them with targets," said Junkin, 32, of Erie. "We're really in a support role, to tell you the truth. It's working out well."
The same applies to the rest of the 4,000-soldier deployment, said brigade spokesman Capt. Cory Angell.
"We're all trying to let (the Iraqis) take the lead, because they know, and we know, that we are only going to be here for so much longer," Angell said.
