BAGHDAD – Multi-National Division - Baghdad soldiers killed six criminals during night operations in Baghdad May 2-3.

Soldiers from 107th Engineers Battalion, 1st Squadron, 2nd Stryker Cavalry Regiment, were attacked with an improvised explosive device at approximately 9 p.m. in northeastern Baghdad. As they secured their vehicles, the soldiers were attacked by criminals using small-arms fire. The MND-B soldiers returned fire and killed two criminals. No soldiers were injured in the IED attack or subsequent engagement.

At approximately 12:15 a.m. May 3, an aerial weapons team witnessed two criminals digging a hole on the side of the road and emplacing an IED in northwestern Baghdad. The AWT engaged the criminals with a Hellfire missile and killed both men.

An AWT witnessed two criminals laying detonation wire to an IED at approximately 1:10 a.m. in eastern Baghdad. The AWT engaged the two criminals with a Hellfire missile and killed them both.

“We are putting criminals on notice: Coalition forces will continue to use all of our resources to put a stop to these attacks,” said Lt. Col. Steve Stover, spokesman, MND-B and the 4th Infantry Division. “These attacks against Iraqi Security Forces, our soldiers and the Iraqi people will be responded to with deadly force.”
