The Department of Defense announced today the death of a soldier who was supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom.
Spc. Jeremiah C. Hughes, 26, of Jacksonville, Fla., died April 9 in Balad Iraq, of injuries sustained in a non-combat related incident in Abu Gharab, Iraq. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 21st Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team (Stryker), 25th Infantry Division, Schofield Barracks, Hawaii.
We'd like to offer our sincere condolences to his family and friends during this difficult time.
I've known Jere for 18 years. We grew up together, and he was a brother to me. Jere died fighting for what he believed in. He had a warrior's spirit and the kind of grim determination to always get the job done no matter what. I've always said that if I have to go into combat again, I would want HIM beside me. You could always count on Jere. I will miss him and ALWAYS remember him.
I am so sorry for the loss of this fine young man and your HERO Spc Jeremiah C Hughes. I lost my son in Iraq on May 6/2007, so I can well understand your pain of losing a loved one so dear.
I pray you will continue to be guided by a higher power to give you peace, comfort and strength.
Psalm 34:18
The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit
GOD Bless you and your family. Your soldier was a true American Hero and we are all very proud of his service. He will not be forgotten!

3rd Platoon A Company 1-21 infantry battalion lost a great friend and soldier. Those of us who had the privilege of working with him everyday will miss him dearly. God be with his family and fellow soldiers. You will be missed here in hawaii. I speak for all of the soldiers on rear d when i say that the man will be missed.
Miller and myself(bullock) will hopefully be there in may/june time frame.
I was in the same squad as Jerry in OIF II, I have a few good pictures of Jerry having fun during our first tour if the family is interested, just email me at kamoczygemba@yahoo.com. He was a great fella, very brave and funny, but his best quality was knowing how to get under someone's skin, that was some of the best entertainment we had that year. You will be missed Jerry.
Jere was a good friend of mine as well as his wife, angie. My kids called him uncle and he was a great man. i appreciate everyone who has posted a comment and for sending your love and condolences. Angie would appreciate it too. thank you very much.
