The Department of Defense announced today the death of a soldier who was supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Spc. Orlando A. Perez, 23, of Houston, TX, died Feb. 24 in Baghdad, Iraq, of wounds suffered from small arms fire during dismounted operations. He was assigned to the 2nd Squadron, 2nd Stryker Cavalry Regiment, Vilseck, Germany.

All of us here offer our sincere condolences to the loved ones Perez leaves behind.

Perez will never be forgotten! I love you P! Rest in Peace! He was one of the nicest people you could ever know. Sad how this kind of thing happens to such a good person. My condolences go to his family and his wife April.

There are no words that can undo the loss of this brave HERO. SPC Orlando Perez has joined his Heavenly Band of Brothers. You were the finest and bravest Soldier I have ever had the honor to serve with. The entire platoon mourned at your loss. Many of us cried at the memorial service that was attended by almost every single 2-2 SCR soldier that was on FOB Falcon. You will never be forgotten.

As a former Fox trooper in the 2nd Cavalry, I solemnly salute SPC Perez's sacrifice for his country and his brothers in arms. Any assistance the his family needs can be requested from the EE Mixon 2nd Dragon Foundation (2nddragoon.org), which is dedicated to helping the families of troopers.

Theres not a day that goes by that i dont think and pray for you and your family. im glad i had the honor of serving with you, you are truly a hero.
