The Department of Defense announced today the death of a soldier who was supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom.
Spc. Peter W. Schmidt, 30, of Eureka, Calif., died Nov. 13 in Mukhisa, Iraq, of wounds suffered when an improvised explosive device detonated during dismounted combat operations. He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 23rd Infantry Regiment, 4th Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 2nd Infantry Division, Fort Lewis, Wash.
We would like to offer our sincere condolences to the loved ones he leaves behind.
My deepest sympathy to the family and fellow Soldiers of Spc. Schmidt. He was an American
Hero, and paid the ultimate sacrifice for all
of us. He will not be forgotten.
To the family, friends and fellow soldiers working along side SPC Schmidt, I pray the Good Lord gives you the strength during this difficult time. Please know that Peter will always be remembered as a Hero. SPC Schmidt, rest in peace until you meet your loved ones again.
