The Department of Defense announced today the death of a soldier who was supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Spc. Jason N. Marchand, 26, of Greenwood, W. Va., died Oct. 5 in Baghdad of wounds sustained when an improvised explosive device detonated near his unit during combat operations. Marchand was assigned to the 3rd Squadron, 2nd Stryker Cavalry Regiment, in Vilseck, Germany.

We would like to extend our deepest sympathies to the loved ones he leaves behind.

Jason is my cousin. I want to thank everyone for their concerns and prayers. Just keep his mom in your prayers. She is really having a hard time. God bless and protect all of our soldiers.

To the Mother, Father,daughter, siblings and fellow soldiers working with SPc Jason Marchand I pray God give you the necessary strength for each day...until you meet Jason again. Jason would want you to proudly carry on. Please know that Jason will always be remembered. Jason is a Hero, he willingly went into harms way to protect complete strangers. "No grater love..." Jason RIP, you are now in God's Army, serving with many Hero's. We know that you are now looking after your family and fellow soldiers with a clear vantage point.
