SSG Fernando Santos

The Department of Defense announced today the death of a Soldier who was supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Staff Sgt. Fernando Santos, 29, of San Antonio, Texas, died Aug. 2 in Baghdad, Iraq, of wounds sustained when an improvised explosive device detonated near his vehicle. Santos was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 3rd Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade, 2nd Infantry Division, Fort Lewis, Wash.

To his family and friends - please know that we are all keeping you in our thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.

To the family, friends and Brothers in arms working along side SSG Fernando Ssntos, may the Good Lord give you the strength that only he know you need during this most difficult time. SSG Santos, you have my unending gratitude for your selfless devotion to keeping my family, your family, and our great Nation safe. You will always be remembered.

Sometimes we felt short in words, but my tears tell me something tonight, we lost another hero, another son, another brother, may God give you peace and comfort! SSG Fernando Santos rest in peace! Godspeed hero!

Words can never express how much my heart goes out to the family of this brave young man. Fernando is a true American hero who will never be forgotten.

I just wanted to stop by and say thank you to all your kind words, thoughts, and prayers. Fernando was my cousin and my family appreciates all the support. Fernando loved nothing more than serving his country. His wife and children need lots of prayer at this timeit is the only way we are making it through this tragedy. I know many of you have children, brother, daughter, fathers, ect. out in Iraq and I pray everyday for them. Once again thank you and God Bless!
