Crazy, crazy.
My son and wife have had to sign an agreement they will not rent out their home. So there it is sitting empty, they are having to pay rent, and no-one allowed to use it. Does this make sense?

I just saw your message and I am not a lawyer, however I have two kids in the Military. They answer to your question is not very easy. First, it depends on the state the lease was signed in. Some states laws that allow the renters to break the leases without any penalty. Also, the local base can assist with this.

Usually, it is recommended to put a Military Clause in the lease that will allow you to break the lease under certain circumstances, i.e. being deployed.

Of course I am assuming that this is a "lease" and some contracts will not let you re-lease your apartment or house. So, without knowing what state your in, what the situation is with your son, (why did they move out and where did they go?) it is difficult to make a suggestion on what can or can not be done.

However, you can contact the local base and see if there is anything they can do. They do work with soldiers and landlords to deal with these types of issues.

I live in Vilseck and my husband is with 2SCR. We are not stupid but because we are in
Germany they treat us like crap, they jip you no matter what it is, even the px rips you off, they went so far as raising their prices in their store when they found out 2SCR was coming here, and thats not even the beginning, the health clinc is a joke and are kids aren't ever able to be seen, therefore are late with shots and checkups, and most of those children being infant up to 3 years old, the dental clinic won't see us, I'm going to get more aggravated as I write this but if the people in America knew how we were being treated over here at this Vilseck post they would be outraged, it would be like the Waller Hall incident. As far as your son goes with his lease, the military is not suppose to have any kind of arrangements or dealings with people who do not support the military clause but over here everything that isn't suppose to be IS! I even had a friend who's husband was gone to the field constantly and her neighbor would record her with a video camera, steal her mail, and get into her car, she was very scared and notified JAG, IG, the commander, the MP's, everyone she was suppose to and she had to put up a HUGE fight for the military to move them out of that house, the military said it wasn't threating enough and other kinds of crap just because they didn't want to have to deal with it. The military says they are all about the families but THEY AREN'T!!!!!!! That coyuld have been a terrorist recording her or planning to blow her up or something, they are always showing commercials about paying attention to things going on around you and contacting officials, and its all lies, THEY DON'T CARE!! Many people have resorted to calling their congressmen and trying to get something done about this place over here. This unit is very messed up to put it nicely. We now will only have 2 doctors in the whole health clinic to see all family members and its hard enough as was with a couple more! I don't even think they are going to have a pediatrician! But they won't refer you off post for your kids and graf. health clinic won't see you "because theres a clinic here in Vilseck to take care of you" and they have a new $2 million dollar health clinic! Must i go on, I could write for days about things that aren't right over here, I'm about to start calling t.v. stations! ~Sam
