FORT LEWIS, Wash. - Army officials identified a Stryker brigade soldier stabbed to death last week as Pvt. Timothy W. Crislip of Elmhurst, Ill., whose mother described him Monday as "an awesome young man."

Crislip died at Madigan Army Medical Center on Friday after being "stabbed by another soldier," Fort Lewis said in a news release. The other soldier was taken into custody but was not identified Monday.

Military police and the Army's criminal investigation division were reviewing the case. Additional details, including a motive, were not immediately available.

Crislip, 22, joined the Army on Aug. 12, 2003, a few months after graduating from Timothy Christian High School in Elmhurst.

He'd previously been assigned to Fort Campbell in Kentucky and Fort Jackson, S.C., before coming to Fort Lewis in April 2007.

"He had a heart of gold," said his mother, Linda Crislip, who lives in Crest Hill, Ill. "He loved easily." She received the news of her son's death Friday.

Timothy Crislip served a year in Iraq ending in April 2006 with Headquarters and Headquarters Battery, 44th Air Defense Battalion at Fort Campbell.

He was currently a member of Company B, 402nd Brigade Support Battalion, 5th Brigade, 2nd Infantry Division, a new Stryker brigade being developed at Fort Lewis, a post south of Tacoma.

Comments For "Fort Lewis soldier stabbed to death":

I think it is so sad that this young man's death has not received any comments. His family is probably as devistated as any of the families of the men who have died in Iraq, but he does not die with the "benefit of glory" of a combat death. He was still a Stryker son and brother, and should be recognized as such. Private Crislip will be remembered in my prayers along with his Stryker brothers with whom he would have served.

Amen!
His family has been in my prayers, probably everybody was waiting for details of the incident. I'm sure his family was and it is in the prayers of the faithfull people who always post comments in this site, we are a family, Strykers family and we mourn each of one,may God give the peace and confort to the family, friends and fellow soldiers of PVT Crislip. Rest in peace in the presence of God!

TIMS FAMILY ARE IN MY PRAYERS AS WELL. I WAS TIMS GIRLFRIEND AND EVERYONE THAT NEW HIM MISSES HIM SO MUCH. HE WILL FOREVER STAY IN ARE HEARTS. I WILL ALWAYS LOVE HIM. EVERY ONE THAT NEW HIM WILL ALWAYS LOVE HIM.

I know the kid who stabbed Crislip. He was my friend last year at boarding school. This is really shocking news to here, ***** was a really good guy. I hope the court doesn't go too hard on him but my heart is for the victim.
