The DoD announced today the death of a Stryker soldier killed during pre-deployment training.
Sgt. Jonathon R. Gilbert, 22, of Old Town, Idaho, was injured while conducting a squad exercise at the Grafenwöhr Training Area on May 30. He died at Landstuhl Regional Medical Center. Gilbert was assigned to Company H, 3rd Squadron, 2nd Stryker Cavalry Regiment, based at Rose Barracks in Vilseck, Germany.
We would like to offer our sincere condolences to the family, friends, and fellow soldiers he leaves behind.
Love and prayers to all those that knew, and loved Rusty. Everyone that I hear speak of him, all mention the same thing... his smile!!! Thanking God for allowing me a little piece of his world for a short time... but the effect he had on my life, for a lifetime. Thank you for your service to our country... meet you in heaven!
I love you and always will... but you already know that. The times we shared will be forever in my heart and mind. I know you will be watching over your brothers and I hope they can feel your presence as they do this again. All my love to your family...
While I never met Rusty, I felt that I knew him through a very dear mutual friend. My son served with Rusty, and we will never forget this HERO. We pray that he is enjoying his heavenly reward, and watching over his family, at home and overseas. May his smile bring light to all those who love him, and may God grant comfort, peace and courage to all those he leaves behind. The entire Stryker Family shares the loss of this Hero, and we will keep him and his loved ones in our hearts and prayers.
