SGT James C. Akin

The Department of Defense announced today the death of a soldier who was supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Sgt. James C. Akin, 23, of Albuquerque, N.M. died June 3 in Thania, Iraq, of wounds suffered when an improvised explosive device detonated near his vehicle. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 37th Field Artillery Regiment, 3rd Brigade, 2nd Infantry Division (Stryker Brigade Combat Team), Fort Lewis, Wash.

All of us here would like to offer our sincere condolences to his family and friends.

My condolences to the family, friends, and unit members of Sgt. James C. Akin. Though many years apart, we walked the same halls, traveled the same nieghborhood streets. We may have even passed by each other without me seeing the hero there, the outstanding young man, who was also a neighbor. I will be proud to stand for him now. Rest in Peace Stryker Warrior. We will bring you home with honor.

My heart felt condolences to the family, friends and brothers in arms of this brave soldier. Praying that God kepps you in the palms of his hands and gives you comfort and peace during these difficult days. You sacfrice will never be forgotten.

No words can ever truly heal the hurt and sorrow that you are feeling. James was a true American hero that was willing to give his life so that others might be free and I thank him. May he rest in peace and may the Lord be with you.
