Today we got an email from our son SG David Mitchell, informing us of the loss of his good friend. He said they had served during both Iraq deployments together. Our hearts ached for the family and friends of SSG Hector Leija. Even though we never got to meet your son, we know, from our son, that he was a very special young man who loved the Lord, his fellow man, and was an outstading warrior for freedom. A son anyone would be proud of! Unfortuantely, there are no words that are sufficient at times like this, but we are truly sorry for your loss. We pray you will find comfort and peace in the arms of the Lord, and we thank God for sharing His son SSG Hector Leija with the world. He made a difference in many lives!

Jim & Linda

Hector was a great person and an even better soldier. I will miss him everyday and think about the time that we spent together. My only regret is that I will never be able to hear his laugh or a joke over a cold beer. Hector you are the definition of a Soldier, I wish that there was something that I could do so that everyone in the world would know your name and your sacrifice. I can promise you this; everyone that I know, everyone that I meet will know who you are and of your bravery. I'm proud that we were friends.

To the close and personal family of Hector Leija... i know its been a while, but i dont think that really matters. My mom (maria rodriquez) told me that her and my uncle (Joe luis leija) were very close to your son! when my mom found out that he was shot she was in complete shock... when she called and told my uncle that his cousin hector was shot he couldnt believe it! my mom told me some funny stories about them when they were growing up... i know i never met him but from all the wonderful things i heard from the family i bet he was an awesome person... my prayers are still with you... and i bet hector and my grandpa (nichols leija) are having some good times now!! :)
