Battle equipment from two U.S. Army Alaska units that recently returned from Iraq will begin arriving in Anchorage this week, including the Stryker vehicles used by the 172nd Stryker Brigade Combat Team.
The equipment is scheduled to arrive at the Port of Anchorage on Wednesday morning on the USS Shugart, according to a press release from U.S. Army Alaska.
The ship is carrying 249 Stryker vehicles and other vehicles, such as Humvees and trucks, used by the 172nd while it was deployed in Iraq for 16 months. The brigade has since been redesignated the 1st Brigade, 25th Infantry Division. The ship also is carrying 457 containers of the brigade’s equipment.
The 3,800 soldiers with the brigade arrived in Alaska in late November through early December.
Also on the ship are six HH-60 Black Hawk helicopters for the 1st Battalion, 52nd Aviation Regiment at Fort Wainwright.
