Indianapolis - The greatest of Christmas wishes came true for one Hoosier family Sunday. Corporal Derek Sutton of Greenwood reunited with his family after serving 16 months in war-torn Iraq.

There's no place like home for the Holidays, especially when it's been so long.

"He left Christmas Eve last year and that's the last time I saw him. So I am ready to give him a big hug and welcome him home," said Laura Sutton.

Corporal Derek Sutton of the 172nd Stryker Brigade has bravely served in Iraq for 16 months and seen the increasing violence first hand. His roommate, Alex, was killed.

"After losing his best friend in September, it's just been a nervous period for 3 or months. Just makes a little more excited when he actually does get home," said Dan Sutton.

"I feel like a little kid at Christmas time," said Laura.

If their nerves weren't high enough, the excitement intensified when they found out his flight arrived 20 minutes early.

When he arrived at the airport, there were hugs of joy and tears of relief.

"The stress has about left us now," said Dan.

The whole family is grateful Derek is home and safe.
