BAGHDAD – Members of the 1st Battalion, 6th Iraqi National Police Brigade and 1st Battalion, 14th Cavalry Regiment seized two weapons caches and detained six men suspected of committing sectarian murders and emplacing roadside bombs in the al-Hadar neighborhood here Dec 10.
The early morning operation began with the establishment of an outer security perimeter by coalition forces while national police entered several homes and the Al Sahaby Mosque in search of the men and possible weapons caches.
The national police seized two weapons caches containing assault rifles, a roadside bomb, a bullet-proof vest, assorted small arms ammunition and bomb-making materials. One of the weapons seized was a rifle fitted with a sniper scope, laser sight and modified to accept a sound suppressor.
The six suspects are being held for further questioning.
