MOSUL, Iraq (September 27, 2006) –A Soldier from Co. B, 3rd Platoon, 2nd Battalion, 3rd Infantry Regiment, 3rd Stryker Brigade Combat Team ,2nd Infantry Division, Ft. Lewis, WA stationed on Forward Operating Base Marez, Mosul, Iraq was promoted to specialist before going on a dismounted patrol, Sept 23.
1st Lt. Patrick Horan, platoon leader, Co. B, 3rd Plt., 2nd Bn.,3rd Inf. Rgt., promoted Spc. Rodney Nonamaker, vehicle driver, Co. B, 3rd Plt. 2nd Bn., 3rd Inf. Rgt., and native of Phillipsburg, Kan.
“I was once enlisted and I know how important and how good it feels to actually earn a rank, to get promoted in front of your platoon, your friends, your peers, and to know that the people you work for and trust, think that highly of you,” said Horan.
According to Horan, Nonamaker has a “can do attitude” and accomplishes any task you assign to him. Nonamaker makes the right decision when needed and has potential of becoming a good Non-Commissioned Officer.
“I like to reward those for doing a great job and the best way to do that is promote them to a higher rank with more responsibility,” said Horan. “I think the best way to reward a Soldier is to promote them in front of their platoon, it’s more of a moral boost when they see their buddy get promoted.”
Sgt. First Class Christopher Maxwell, Platoon Sgt, Co.B, 3rd Plt., 2nd Bn., 3rd inf. Rgt., 3rd SBCT, 2nd Inf. Div. remarked that Nonamaker is one of the hardest working Soldiers the platoon has and always volunteers to help fellow Soldiers.
“He is definitely going to be a good team leader,” said Maxwell. “His promotion has been a long time coming, he definitely deserves it, and he is a real hard worker.”
