VILSECK, Germany — Soldiers of the 2nd Cavalry Regiment said goodbye Monday to a comrade who died during physical training last week.
Pfc. Matthew C. Dehle, a Stryker armored personnel carrier driver with Company E, 2nd Squadron, 2nd Cavalry Regiment, died Wednesday during a hill run, according to soldiers from his unit.
Army public affairs officials have yet to release his age or any information about the death.
Unit soldiers packed the Vilseck movie theater Monday for a memorial service attended by Dehle’s family, including his wife, Holly Anne, who was in Vilseck with her husband when he died.
One of the Company E soldiers at the ceremony, Pfc. Thomas Morris, 19, of Prospect Park, Pa., said he would miss listening to rock music and sharing jokes with Dehle.
“He had rosy red cheeks and a smile you couldn’t slap off his face,” he said.
