I was terribly saddened to hear of this news. I grew up an hour away from Paw Paw and found this tragedy to really "hit home". Although I did not know your son, it is apparent from the news articles he was a wonderful person. I am truly sorry for your loss. We will keep your family in our prayers. As someone else wrote - your son is the best this country has - I believe this.
I have a brother in the Styker unit that was held-over and sent to Bagdad.
Respectfully,
Dan Hamlin

I am so very sorry for your loss. I didn't have to know your son to realize he was a brave and heroic soldier. So young and strong, ready to be put in harms way for the cause of freedom. Because of Gabriel and our soldiers, we are able to go on with our lives without fear of persecution when we stand up and make ourselves heard. I also am a mother of a 26 year old son that is a stryker soldier, he left for his second tour in Iraq in June, I pray for his safety every day. Every time we lose a service member my heart breaks for that loss and aches for that family, especially for the mother because I can relate... I feel as if I have lost my own child, perhaps only ANOTHER mother could understand. Gabriel layed down his life for others and it will not go un-noticed. Now he is safe in God's hands and at rest, I hope there will be some consolation in knowing that. I grieve for you as a mom and I'm sure every other mother's heart goes out to you too. I will be praying for God's grace to be upon you and your family and that He will bring peace and happiness once again to your lives. (Eccl 3)

My heart is always so heavy when I see the Dept. of Defense's announcements... I went to Seattle's newspaper to read about this wonderful, beautiful person that God has gathered into Heaven! We are always the ones who hurt so, not them. What an empty space they leave; one no one else will EVER fill! I only wish all of America would realize what a heavy price these wonderful yound souls are paying for us! To Gabriel's family and friends, I extend my heart and love... Being a teacher, I extend my warmest thoughts to Gabriel's Dad who will find so much comfort that will be extended to him from his middle school students as they embrace his loss too. God Bless ALL of you! God Bless, GABRIEL! He is truely God's angel in Heaven now!

I'll always remember Gabe for his sweet love for his little boy and never ending affection that he showed for my friend Hannah, his wife. I pray that as a Christian I will live as Gabe did and have a testimony just as strong. The world will never forget his sacrifice and his faith.

I'm so sorry for your loss... our loss. Our country has lost a wonderful man, apparent in the articles about him. I pray that God will continue to use his legacy to touch the soldiers he has left behind, and for his family who must try to move on without his physical presence. He will live forever among our hearts...and we will never forget the sacrifice he has made for our country. I pray an extra special prayer for his little boy... may he always know that his Daddy was a true American hero!
