Members of the 172nd Stryker Brigade Combat Team in Iraq will return to Fort Wainwright by mid-December, according to a letter from Army Secretary Francis Harvey.
“The extension is for up to 120 days with the main body elements of the BCT now scheduled to return by mid-December 2006,” Harvey said in an Aug. 11 letter to Sen. Lisa Murkowski, R-Alaska.
Murkowski released the letter Wednesday.
Comments For "Sen. Murkowski: Strykers will be coming home in December":
Its about time we get some action on this whole thing. My brother in law is over there and his wife is my dear sister. How much can these families be told to endure.Enough is enough, I think it will be a great Christmas present, and all of the families will have tons to celebrate.
Can someone help us with WHO we need to contact about United Airlines not wanting to work with us and plane tickets. Our son was to return from Iraq and get married in the mid-west in September. Everything was planned and then the 172nd was detained. Not only did Orbitz keep over $500 of his money, United Airlines doesn't want to work with us on refunding OUR tickets. This action was by federal orders... Any suggestions on who we should contact for help?

Send an email to customer service at Orbitz..I complained to them and they were quite good and offered me $50.00 for goodwill...in your email ask them to call you directly..if not keep on asking for the supervisor..and their boss etc...
same with United..it should work..(always go to the top)!
Good luck!

Contact the Family Assistance CEnter on post at Ft.Wainwright. IT's an organization set up to help with any problems-including plane tickets-caused by the extension. The number is 1-800-352-9013. They are open 24/7 on the phone and office hrs are 7am-8pm (alaska time!) every day!! Hope this helps!
Considering every time we are told something and it ends up either being a lie or conveniently changes within the blink of an eye, how reliable is this newly released information that our loved ones will be home in mid-December? Moreover, does "home" represent Fort Wainwright or will those Soldiers who live across the states be able to come home for Christmas too? I am desperately awaiting positive news that can be valued for its truthfulness, as I am sure you all are. Does anyone know who I can contact for further information? Thank you all for your time in this matter.
"Lord, hold our troops in your loving hands. Protect them as they protect us. Bless them and their families for the selfless acts they perform for us in our time of need. I ask this in the name of Jesus, our Lord and Savior. Amen."
I KNOW WE SHOULD BE THANKFUL FOR THE MIDDLE OF DECEMBER, BUT I TOO HAVE MISTRUST AND I TOO WONDER IF THIS MEANS (HOME) FAIRBANKS, ALA. OR (HOME) KENTUCKY. MY UNDERSTANDING THE EXTENSION WAS FOR "UP TO 4 MOS." NOW AM I TO UNDERSTAND IT IS A "DEFINITE" 4 MOS.? HOW CAN THEY DETERMINE IF MAYBE THE EXTENTION WILL NOT BE COMPLETELY SUCCESSFUL IN 2 1/2, 3, 3 1/2 MOS.? IS THIS MIDDLE OF DEC. DATE A BIT PREMATURE FOR SUCCESS RATE. I ALSO LIKE SOME ANSWERS ABOUT WHERE "HOME" IS.
