BAGHDAD, Iraq - The U.S. command confirmed Saturday that it will move about 3,700 troops to Baghdad to try to quell violence in the capital.
The 172nd Stryker Brigade, which had been due to leave Iraq after a year’s assignment, will be sent from northern Iraq to the capital, Gen. George W. Casey Jr., the top U.S. commander in Iraq, said.
“This will place our most experienced unit with our most mobile and agile systems in support of our main effort,” Casey said. “With the rest of the elements of the plan, this gives us a potentially decisive capability to affect security in Baghdad.”

I talked to my son today and we have both gotten kind of used to the idea of another 4 months. We both can't change it so what else is there to do.
I guess at this point what haunts me is the fear for him and the other Strykers, what if the unspeakable happens when they were all actually supposed to be home. I pray for all these brave kids who are going to the fire after they were allowed out of the frying pan. They are accepting a fate they really don't deserve and I for one am proud of every darn one of them.
I talked to my brother on Saturday. He will miss his baby's 1st birthday now because of this redeployment. But he signed up for this, and is trained for this, so he will go do this... We will document every breath, action, sound she makes on her birthday for him. And she will grow up proud knowing what her Daddy is doing for us, to allow us to give her a "Care Bear" birthday party!
We are praying for all of the soldiers who are being redeployed and look forward to the news of when they will be coming home next.
We talked with our son, and he sounded good! We are from the "lower 48", his words were BE STRONG, may our brigade complete there mission and come home soon. Our soldiers are all so brave, we can't wait to be a part of the homecoming and we pray for all them. Thank you FRG leader and thank you our Brigade. Godspeed!!!
My son is with the 172nd, and he received word on Thursday, July 27, 2006, for his platoon to remain in Iraq for another 90 to 120 days. I pray each day, throughout the day, for the safe return of my son and all of the military.
Our son is attached to 172nd and when we found out he was going to be extended we were upset as so many families were. When we talked with him on Saturday he was in good spirts and was excited to take on the new mission. This helps us realize these guys are soliders and are willing to do what ever it takes to protect us in our home land.We look forward to seeing him home after they complete the mission. May God bless each and everyone of them and protect them while they complete their mission.
I support them. I do not support the decision regarding them. I think the more we are quiet, the easier it is for them to do more upsetting things to us. My husband is depressed. He hasn't seen anyone happy. My feeling is that most of them just want their families to feel better. He has heard others say, "Well it sucks, but we need to do it". That's the only positive thing he has personally heard. Sorry, but from what I'm hearing, no one is accepting it yet. That does not mean they are not supported, just that the miserable way it was done to them is not supported and should not happen to anyone else. That defeats the purpose of America. Letting people trample on your spirits just because they can and because it's easier for themselves. There's a lot of manipulation being fed to us to make us be quiet and get used to it. It's very obvious and very insulting to us. I'm sorry but I will never change my mind. My husband is home in his mind.
AFTER READING ALL THE COMMENTS, I CAN SAY I ALSO AM NOT HAPPY WITH WHAT HAS BEEN PUT ON OUR 172ND STRYKER BRIGADE. AS A MOTHER OF ONE OF THE BEST, I DON'T FEEL IT'S RIGHT TO KEEP THEM ANY LONGER THAN 1 YEAR AS PROMISED, BUT WHAT CAN I DO TO CHANGE IT? THEY ARE TIRED, HOT AND WAS READY TO COME BACK TO THE STATES AND THE WAY IT WAS DONE WAS SO UNFAIR. RIGHT AT THE MOMENT THEY WERE READY TO LEAVE, AFTER SENDING ALL THEIR PERSONAL THINGS BACK TO FORT WAINRIGHT, AND LOOKING FORWARD TO MOVING ON TO THEIR CHOICES AFTER FORT WAINWRIGHT THEY WERE TOLD NOT YET. HOW LONG WE DON'T KNOW, WHERE WE DON'T KNOW. EVEN THOUGH THEY ARE THE BEST, THEY ARE HUMAN. AND DON'T BLAME THEM WHEN THEY ASK WHY THEY WAITED UP TO THE LAST MINUTE TO TELL THEM. I SUPPORT THE 172ND ALL THE WAY, BUT I DON'T SUPPORT THE WAY THEY WERE TOLD. PRAYERS ARE BEING SAID EVERYWHERE FOR ALL OF YOU AND WILL CONTINUE UNTIL YOU COME BACK TO US. GOOD LUCK AND GOD SPEED TO THE 172ND STRYKER BRIGADE AND MY SON THE LT. OF THE 4/14 CAV THUNDERHORSE MEDICS. I'M SO PROUD OF YOU.
im telling you everybody it does no good to sit around and complain to your friends! and for the record im just as angry about this too. i want my husband home and so does he!

Also, if they can do this, what else will they choose to do? You just sort of figure that they will exercise some morals.
