WASHINGTON – More than $100 million for Fort Lewis was removed from a military construction bill Friday after it got caught in a budget dispute on the House floor.

Despite the setback, Rep. Norm Dicks, D-Belfair, said he expected the funding eventually will be restored.

The money – $102 million for the new Stryker brigade complex at Fort Lewis – was the largest item deleted from the legislation. It had been part of more $500 million in emergency spending included in the measure, which Republican conservatives said sidestepped House budget allocations.

“I am very confident in the end of the day it will be there,” Dicks said of the funding, adding he expected it will be included in the Senate version of the bill or restored by House and Senate negotiators when they hammer out a final version.
