Fort Lewis formally opened its newest building Wednesday, a $21 million digital training center where everyone from privates to generals will practice their piece of the fight.
The 67,000-square-foot Battle Command Training Center consolidates facilities that previously were spread out all over the Army post, officials said at a ribbon-cutting event.
The place will enable units at Fort Lewis to train via network connections with others from across the military in the Pacific Northwest as well as in Alaska, Korea, Hawaii and elsewhere, said Lt. Gen. James Dubik, the post and I Corps commander.
“This represents worldwide training connectivity,” Dubik said.
The center is part of the more than $375 million in federal construction funds that have flowed to Fort Lewis since 2000. Congress is likely to send another $150 million in the 2006 fiscal year, and the Army is seeking another $360 million or more in the following two years.
