Soldiers joining new Stryker unit, unit of action eligible for SRBs

Life-cycle units with two of the Army’s most recognizable shoulder patches are seeking qualified soldiers to join their ranks at Fort Lewis, Wash., and Fort Bliss, Texas.
The 2nd Cavalry Regiment, one of the Army’s oldest units, is converting to a Stryker Brigade Combat Team after spending most of its recent history as an armor regiment.
The regiment dates to 1836, when President Jackson ordered its establishment as a regiment of dragoons during the Second Seminole War.
The regiment’s motto, “Toujours Pret” (Always Ready), and its distinctive fleur-de-lis shoulder patch recognize its service in France during world wars I and II.
And Fort Bliss, the original 1921 headquarters of the 1st Cavalry Division, will become home to the storied division’s fourth maneuver brigade, an entirely new unit. Like its three fellow brigades at Fort Hood, Texas, the 4/1st Cav will be a “heavy” unit of action.
New Stryker team
The 2nd Cav Regiment will become the Army’s fourth Stryker Brigade Combat Team and the third Stryker unit based at Fort Lewis. The other two are 3rd Brigade, 2nd Infantry Division, and 1st Brigade, 25th infantry Division.
The remaining Stryker Brigade, 17th Infantry, is based at Fort Wainwright, Alaska.
Collocation of the units will allow them to share training and support facilities required of Stryker forces, said Maj. Mike Harper, enlisted distribution manager for I Corps at the Human Resources Command. [...]
