Stryker brigade combat teams to get deputy COs

The Army is moving to put another link in the chain of command in Stryker brigade combat teams and modular maneuver units of action.

A deputy commanding officer will be added to the command group for both of those types of units before deployment, the Army announced May 17.

The positions will be filled in each unit no later than 180 days prior to deployment. Units already within six months of shipping out will receive a deputy CO as soon as possible, according to MILPER message 05-125.

DCOs will be combat arms officers who are former battalion commanders, lieutenant colonels awaiting a battalion, or promotable majors already in a brigade and awaiting a battalion command within that unit. [...]
