24 April 2005 update

Apr-24-2005 » Filed Under: Michael Oreskovic

Greetings everyone,

Sorry I have been remiss at posting updates lately. Things have been very hectic around here since our return from Colorado. Michael is out on the town with Cindy and Bryant Jacobs and his girlfriend Alicia. They had breakfast with the dolphins at the aquarium this morning and I hope to post some pics later.

Peggy Baker from Operationfirstresponse.org stopped by again today. We had a nice chat and she met some of the new members of the POWr. (Prisoners of Walter Reed) ;-) Some of the guys have patches made up since they have been here so long. Peggy has been so helpful to so many soldiers and their families, it is a blessing for us all. I feel very fortunate to have met her and Cindy during our time here. Most of you have read that Cindy is now an .ORG and will be able to help even more families now. Check out operationsecondchance.org for more info.

Note to Todd, add Peggy's site to our links page when you have a minute. :-)

Michael's new arm is doing well, he told OT that he wanted out of here as soon as possible. They calmed him down and said he would need to be patient and be here for a while. (bummer) Needless to say, I am ready for new surroundings, more familiar ones at that, but I know there is a lot to do.

It looks like Michael will be retiring from the Army. (Unless something drastic changes his mind) Being one that loved the combat arms area of the Army, he feels a desk job would not suit him very well. Either way, we support his decision whatever way he goes.

We spent five hours in the lab thursday having his hand painted. (I will post a pic to the gallery shortly. http://www.strykernews.com/gallery/Oreo1 ) It is so lifelike it is scary to see. Once they do the final casting and place the fingernails on the hand, they will do his forearm. Pretty amazing artists they have do this stuff. We also got to see them do a foot for a soldier who lost his leg but loves to wear sandles. You can not tell the difference and it has become a challenge to all he meets to see if anyone can guess correctly. :-)

Well, Michael just got home so I better get the pics loaded. I will write more later. Say a little prayer for Cindy as she is going to be laid up for a few weeks.

Take care and God bless.

Dear Mike and Michael,
Thanks for the update. "POWr" We stayed with our
infant granddaughter for 11 days in a hospital for heart surgery (healthy 6 year old now) so
how you all do it is beyond me.
You both are in our thoughts and prayers.

Good to hear from you and tell Michael hello. Keep us posted.
