Greetings everyone,
Just a quick note to say hi and let everyone know that Michael and I are doing well in the high elevation. (those steps up the hills to get to the next building are killing me) LOL. Anyway, Michael skied yesterday for the first time and did real well. Tomorrow he hits the slopes again for his last training lesson before the races on Friday. (everyone one wins in these races, so speed is not an issue)
We went snowmobiling today, another first for Michael, and we didn't crash, so that was a good thing. This week is going by really fast, as all vacations do, but I will say that both Michael and I are not "Aspen Types". ;-) It amazes me the number of people that vacation around here. Since I am not a winter sport fan, I guess I am missing the big draw. Personally, I think a summer event in Hawaii would be more fun. ha ha.
We have met so many nice people here, both staff and veterans and their families. There are vets here from WWII and every war since, including OIF and OEF soldiers still in recovery and rehab. It is amazing how uplifting this type of activity is for everyone. It shows all the disabled vets that anything is possible if you just try. I have taken a lot of pictures and will upload them upon my return to DC once I get them sorted out. Unfortunately, everything costs a lot around here including using the phone for dialup. (outrageous prices on accessing their wireless networks so that is a NO Go) ;-)
I almost forgot, Michael and I went shooting on Monday and he hit 20 out of 25 in the trap range. First time he has shot a shotgun let alone using a prosthetic arm. Needless to say I was beaming with pride knowing that his marksmanship skills are still what they were. We got to shoot a Kimber classic .45, a ruger .38 revolver and .22rimfire pistols and rifles. We tried to get him setup to use the bow and arrows but the arm was not setup for it so that was something he could not do at this time.
One final comment then I have to get offline. Many thanks to all who have made comments here and via email about my son. He has read most of them by now and replied to some. (we forgot the boom mic for the voice activated software so one handed typing takes a while for him) I have saved them all and read them over and over again. They are greatly appreciated.
Take care all, I will follow up again when we get back to Walter Reed once I get used to the elevation and time differenct again. :-0
God bless,
