MOSUL, Iraq (AFP) - A suicide car bomber blew himself up in the path of a US military convoy in the northern Iraqi city of Mosul, police said, but it was not immediately known if there were any US casualties.
A man driving a white Peugeot sped towards a convoy driving down the main road in the Al-Maliya neighbourhood in the city centre on the east side and detonated his charge, said Abdul Rahman Taher, a policeman who witnessed the attack that took place at about 5:20 pm (1420 GMT).
An AFP correspondent who was later at the scene saw the burning remains of the car, a big hole in the road left by the blast and the remains of the suicide bomber strewn around.
The US military was unable to immediately confirm the attack or say if there were any casualties.
