Oreo update

Mar-26-2005 » Filed Under: Michael Oreskovic

Greetings everyone,

I hope everyone is doing well and Happy Easter to all. Things are a bit weird around here for the past few days. An internet worm has invaded the system here at the Mologne House so connections are sporadic at best.

Michael is doing well. He went with Cindy and a couple other soldiers to the movies last night. Cindy said they were all laughing pretty good at the new Ashton K. movie Guess Who. I stayed home to rest up a bit. I think my old age is catching up with me. Energy levels are not what they used to be. LOL. I put up a few new pics last week in Michael's album here in the gallery. I was looking at all of them last night and it amazes me the changes he has gone through the past two years.

We will be away for a while starting
April 2nd for a trip to Aspen Colorado. Occupational Therapy in conjunction with the Winter Sports
Clinic is sponsoring a ski trip for a number of the soldiers who have been wounded. I sure hope they don't expect me to ski. ha ha! It is a week long trip and my internet connection will probably be non existant. Wish us luck.

Michael's new arm blew out again. This time the team decided to get him a completely new one to replace the defective one. I sure hope it works right this time. It is pretty frustrating to us all right now. Next week he will receive his body activated arm. No electronics to have to worry about with this one. From what I have seen, most of the guys prefer this arm anyway. More dependable and easier to repair if something goes wrong.

Michael had a CAT scan on his head yesterday along with e-rays of his left arm and knee. These x-rays will be followed by MRI's in a few weeks to give the docs a better idea of why his arm is bothering him at the incision site. His knee must have been roughed up a bit somewhere along the line as it is now starting to bother him a bunch. We did find out that he is double jointed during the exam however. Hmmmm. never knew that about him. I guess parents are not All Knowing. :-)

We were informed that his OT tech is moving to another job, so Michael will be working with someone else starting next week. Capt. Katie Yancosek will be sorely missed by many in the OT dept. She should be a Lt. Col. by now from what I have seen in the past few months. You know the type, excellent bedside mannery, knowledgeable in all areas of her specialty and the Go To Person that everyone goes to when they have a question. She will be sorely missed by many and I wish her all the best in her future career as a fine Army officer treating our wounded.

Peggy Baker from FirstResponse came by again. Her and her husband sure have been a blessing for my sanity the last few months. I pray her group gets all the help they can for they do plenty on their own to help the soldiers and their families. (Thanks for the easter basket of goodies, my waistline will be growing a bit this weekend)

Michael said to say hi to everyone and sure misses his guys in the troop. Even though many of them have gone on their separate ways, he still wishes he was back at Lewis doing his job. I can not count how many times he has said he really misses his job. I can see the hurt in his eyes when he thinks about how things were. I pray every day that he finds a job that fulfills him as much as being a soldier. Pretty tough slot to fill for a guy like him.

I am still doing battle with the bureaucacy of it all. It seems every body wants to help until you ask for it, then it is like no one is at home. I have decided to move my way up the chain and become a very squeeky wheel for a while. I figure it can't hurt and may get some replies from those in charge. ;-) I have met so many people here that are in the same boat as I and it pains me to think that more isn't being done to aleviate the stress for these families with a little assistance. Oh well, tomorrow is another day. The good news is a senator and his wife are willing to assist me with some clout along with a general or two. I sure hope we can get some things done to help change things for those that follow.

Anyway, have a great weekend and a happy Easter. God bless and take care.

Dear Oreo's Family: What a wonderful job you are doing to support your soldier and the many others who have and will need the support of their families. My son is serving in Iraq with the 2nd Cavalry from Ft.Lewis, and is a Stryker driver. Thank all of you for your continued positive information and efforts.

Mike, not only is Michael a hero, but you are also a hero. You have been there for your soldier every step of this arduous path, but you have also lent your support to other families who have not had the ability to do this on their own. May God reward you with many blessings for all that you have done to help all the wounded soldiers and their families. We continue to pray for Michael's recovery and that God will help him find that new door that opened for him. He is a hero and a wonderful young man. There is a special place for him in this world and I will continue to pray that he finds this place as soon as he is able to fill it. God love and bless you both on Easter, and every day. God bless your entire family, and all the families that are in your position at this time.

Happy Easter to you all and thanks for the update on that hero son. Glad things are starting to come together. Thank God you are with your son to be sure things are done right. My prayers are with you and your family.

I hope Mike continues to improve and that his new arm will serve him well. Please keep us posted. As always, my prayers are with you and your family.
Stryker Mom,
Ellen

to the Oreo family: a Happy belated Easter and I want to thank you for the update on Mike and all of the wonderful headway you seem to be making for our future soldier's that will be in need. My son too is with the 2/14 and although I am so far away I feel like I am as close as can be with your progress reports. I hope Mike continues to do well and may God Bless all of you may he embrace you and give you the strength to continue with your quest to help others.

Michael, just saw your interview on C-Span and I have to say you are a great American and soldier. I will probably never have the opportunity to meet you, but your statements about your mission, beliefs and personal opinions have strengthened my resolve. You are truly a great example, as well, my heart goes out to you. I am proud of you and wish you all the best. God Bless You and God Bless America.

I just saw an interview with Michael on C-span and was so overwhelmed and impressed by him that I immediately looked him up online. He is the epitome of a true American and is someone people should look up to. Michael, thank you for sharing your insights and experiences.

To Michael, I saw your interview on C-Span. I spent 30 years in radio and if you ever decide to get out of the Army you should try radio (talk show). Your a natural. We need more conservatives out there to make a difference. Good luck.

Just caught the interview on CSPAN. I was born without a right arm and I just wanted to say I admire your courage and patriotism and appreciate your ongoing service.

I watched your son's interview with C-Span today. I was very impressed by the way he handled the interviewers questions. I want to thank Michael for taking the time to share his experiences with us. I cannot imagine how difficult the rehabilitation must be, but all I can tell him is that there are people, like myself, that truly appreciate his dedication to our country. I thought the least I could do is write him a thank you note to express my thanks. Like many other Americans that have not spent time in the military, I believe I owe him, and his colleages that have served our country, a debt of gratitude.

Micheal, thank you for being so brave and I want to wish you the best.

If there is anything I can do to help you and your family, please do not hesitate to let me know.
