CHICAGO -- One of the vehicles attracting the most attention at the media preview for the 97th Chicago Auto Show has a top speed of only 62.5 mph.
It can carry 11-but not very comfortably.
It costs $2.5 million per copy.
But it does offer many options. The model on display is equipped with a Mach 19 automatic grenade launcher that can shoot 12 mini bombs a minute.
Meet the Stryker, built by General Dynamics and Caterpillar and helping American troops fight in Iraq and Afghanistan.
The Stryker can be configured for 10 different roles, from carrying cannons, missiles or mortars to carting infantry to the front lines or evacutaing up to six wounded soldiers and the medical team to care for them to rear areas.
The 19-ton Stryker is integral to the Army's light mechanized brigade concept, "ready to roll and fight in 72 hours of landing," explained Capt. Heath Melton, an Arizona native and West Point graduate.
