Provided below are a handful of interesting, non-Stryker related stories that I've been meaning to post. Let us know if you find these kinds of items worthwhile.
Baghdad Journal - Artist Steve Mumford has been in Baghdad since August of 2003, and has spent most of his time embedded with US troops. Along with being an amazing artist, Steve is an incredible journalist. Follow the link to view his artwork and read his stories. (via The Command Post)
Life Vest - Technology Review describes the development of Kevlar, the material used for body armor.
Platoon Leader awarded Silver Star - 1LT Neil Prakash was recently awarded the Silver Star for his actions in Ba'qubah last summer. I first learned about 1LT Prakash by reading his blog, Armor Gedden, which is one of the best I've seen (strong language warning). Prakash's platoon was involved in the November assault on Fallujah, which he chronicles in detail. Be sure to read the archives.
UPDATE: cb has an index of Prakash's Fallujah entries at his site if you're only interested in those entries.
Battle Lessons - A long article by Dan Baum in The New Yorker that examines the lessons learned by the Army in Iraq so far. He focuses a great deal on the increasing reliance on junior officers. Excerpt:
Platoon and company commanders were exercising their initiative to the point of occasional genius. Whatever else the Iraq war is doing to American power and prestige, it is producing the creative and flexible junior officers that the Army’s training could not.
