Greetings all. Well, it took over two weeks worth of running around and paperwork, we finally got the go ahead for convalescent leave for Michael. The bad news is we have to wait until after midnight for the final sign out and if no one knows where the papers are, the sgt may get a call at 4AM. LOL. It is amazing to me the amount of paperwork that was generated and the signatures that were needed. With all the meds Michael is on there would have been no way he could have gotten all of it done in time. I think they need to streamline the process for less stress to the soldiers. Not all of them have family members available to help with stuff like this. Sigh....
On a positive note, we will be flying into Eugene around 1415 hours tomorrow after leaving DC at 0600. With stopovers in Minn and then Seattle, the final leg home will be a short one hour flight. Needless to says we can hardly wait. Michael's arm is recovering nicely now that the infections are under control. OT and PT have been really productive and they will have him do limited stuff when he is at home. Did I say we will be home for almost 30 days? Hooah!!! Home with all the family for Christmas will be a blessing for sure. Michael has been away for 14 months and he misses his favorite foods and being home. The side trip to Walter Reed sure put a damper into his plans but his spirits have been pretty high lately.
We ran into a buddy of his from C troop, working at the hospital during his leave and they have talked a number of times. I can see a real bond with these two that I am sure all the soldiers from each unit have. Michael and Cpl. Ford have lots to talk about and people to catch up on since Michael was in B troop.
Frank from the 14th cav stopped by the other night to see how Michael was doing. There was a chef's night at the hotel and it was very crowded but I got to introduce another cav member to him from the 2-14th that is recovering here. Unfortunately, by the time I got Michael up and out the door, we could not find Frank and the two young men that were with him. My bad, I will have to do better at being a host next time.
Cindy, as usual, has been an angel. Her son and daughter sure have been a blessing to us also. (shopping with my wife can be an experience, so I am thankful they went with her) LOL., yup, if Georg reads this I am toast. ;-) Cindy always checks to see if Michael needs any mcnuggets or milkshakes when she is in the area. He refers to her as his second mom, and for anyone that knows Michael a title like that does not come easily. It sure is amazing the way God leads us in our lives, the people we meet and the places we go.
Anyway, I gotta get busy. Even though we will be back in Jan. we have to vacate the room and pack everything up. Bummer, lots of stuff with not enough boxes. Oh well, adapt and overcome will be the order of the day.
Take care all. Hopefully, I will get to see a few of Michael's buds when we visit fort lewis in January. For all you 1-14th cav guys, pass the word, Oreo is coming back to the northwest. HOOAH!!!!
Regards,
Mike Oreskovic
