Stryker Brigade News

T’was the night before Christmas,
Alone in my bed.
Visions of my soldier,
Danced in my head.

The stockings were hung,
With tender loving care,
Ours will be full,
But his will be bare.

The children were nestled
All snug in their bed,
Hoping visions of daddy
Would dance in their head.

My tears on my pillow,
His last scent on his.
I long just to hold him,
And give just one kiss.

When all of a sudden
A light flashed in my eyes
Somehow the overhead
Shined into life

Not sure how he did it
But he showed me the light
I had an idea
And I know it was right

He wanted cremation,
His wish I wanted to grant
But I just couldn’t do it
And I felt kind of bad.

I needed a place
I could go to see him
So the National Cemetary
Is where we buried him.

The place with the signs
That read “Heroes rest here”
Is just what I needed
Then I had no more fear

The funeral was tough
It was hard just to go
I know he’d be proud though
My heart told me so.

I cried and I cried
Because he’s not coming home
He got full military honors
And a Bronze Star he now owns

Our anniversary is soon
And flowers I will take
I will go out to dinner
And still celebrate

The time that I had him
Was precious to me
The five awesome years
Those are a grand memory

My heart aches so badly,
I miss him so much
But my life must go on
Without having his touch

His legacy lives on
In our lives and others
His wife, his children,
His sister and his mother

His squad will continue
Under his watchful eye,
He will bring them home safely
And then I will cry

For my husband will not
Return with his men,
But his memories will live on
And we will all pray….Amen!
