Families filed in all smiles, excited to welcome back their loved ones. Heidi Starke didn't let anything stop her from attending Tuesday's ceremony.
"I drove it took me like three days to drive here so I'm finally here though," she said.
It's been a year long deployment for soldiers from the Tenth Mountain Division, third Squadron, 17th Cavalry Regiment.
Tuesday they returned home to Fort Drum and were honored in a welcome home ceremony.
These soldiers were overseas in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. It's an experience they'll always remember.
"It was different. It was experience all never forget. With the soldiers of Iraq trying to rebuild there country and us working real close with them it's a great experience all never forget guys I went to war with my soldiers as well as guys we took care of over there," said Sergeant Anthony Cox.
It was a long year for families apart from one another.
And now that these soldiers are home there family members say the best part is that they'll have the holidays to spend together.
