Dear Friends,
I arrived in time to see Scott at Occupational Therapy. Scott used a piece of non-stick matting (the kind you might put in your kitchen drawers to keep things from sliding around) to butter some bread. Then, he had to prepare a shopping list for grilled cheese sandwiches. We discussed how he was caring for Alyson, but no panda diaper changes today.
After lunch, Scott went for his last session of neuropsychological evaluation. When he was finished, the psychologist came with Scott to his room to set up a meeting with the whole family for tomorrow morning. The purpose of the meeting is to discuss the evaluation and get some background information concerning previous occupations and education. Since we have Scott's IEP's with us, this should prove to be helpful.
Later, Scott went to Physical Therapy, where he did the usual stretches before going to the stairs. At the stairs, he had to carry a plastic basket with objects in it up and down the staircase. After this, he worked on leg presses and the knee machine. Of course, Scott can push more weight with his left than the right, but both legs are improving.
Scott next went to Recreation Therapy where he played billiards against the therapist. It took him four games, but he finally won. During the first game, I told Scott the therapist had a "home field advantage." She agreed to play left handed for the last game and I think that made the difference. There's a rumor that Scott is going to an indoor golf driving range sometime tomorrow. We'll see how that turns out.
By the time we got Scott back to his room, his head was bothering him. We tried the environmental things like turning out the lights before getting his nurse to provide him with some pain medication. Julie and I said good bye to Scott for the night and left. We went to dinner someplace at the Mall. We took the new light rail from the VA station to the Mall, which was nice. It also runs to both terminals of the airport, a big advantage over San Diego.
