Oreo update for 11-30

Nov-30-2004 » Filed Under: Michael Oreskovic

Greetings everyone. Great news from the land of Walter Reed. Michael was discharged from the hospital and is now an outpatient. HOOAH!!! No more IV's and noisey hallways when he tries to sleep. Now the hard work starts I guess. Lots of OT and PT to be done in the coming months as he learns how to use his body and muscles to control the different prosthesis devices.

I am so fortunate that so many people have offered to help me and my family through these trying times in our lives. From the many contributions to our fund to help with expenses to the rides to the airport and PX, all of it is so overwhelming at times it sure is nice to have friends available. Thank you all so much for all the kind words, letters and assistance. It is truly appreciated.

Michael, his mom and sister, got to visit with the OCC guys and even got some pictures today. I sure wish I was there but alas, work needs to be done at home and I can't wait to get back to DC. My employer has graciously extended my job description to include remote access. This means I can do my job from DC via the internet and start to get a paycheck again. Just in time too since finances are running low. Great news on the medical insurance area. Our company is changing the first of the year to another company for our coverage and my contributions will be lowered 75 dollars a month. Seems like a raise without really getting one. LOL.

Michael's unit has been in contact with him and it looks like he may get a visit from a couple of them in January if all goes well. He sure does miss the guys and now that he is more mobile, the emails will start to flow from his end once I get back. (My bad, I had the addresses and never really had the time to enter them all, but hopefully, that will change when I return)

Michael went shopping with his mom, sister, Cindy and Ashley the other day. He did pretty well but the traffic and all the people were a bit much for him. We had heard the guys need time to adjust to the traffic after being in Iraq and the crowds of people tend to make him heat up a bit. Needless to say the OCC event today really put those feelings to the test. God willing, he will adjust with time and no heads will get broken in the meantime. ;-) Sometimes those infantry guys tend to get a bit forcefull so I guess it was good he was surrounded by all those cav scouts for so long. :-P

Well, my daughter should be on her way to the airport by now. I am sure it is a tearfull goodbye after such a short visit with her brother. God willing, Michael will be able to come home for Christmas and the entire family can be together at one time. I can hardly wait.

Take care everyone, God bless our troops and those that love them, for they keep us free.

Sincerely yours,
Michael S. Oreskovic

Hooray! Glad you're out! I know you've got a rough patch ahead, but you're the kind of guy to gut through it. Our thoughts and prayers will continue to be with you. Love, Scott's Aunt Karen

That is GREAT news! Congratulations. And best wishes for a strong recovery.

Congratulations Michael!! I know you are so relieved to get out of the hospital! Thank you Mike for the update, we are keeping your entire family in our prayers. I was so glad to hear that your job is working with you....never ceases to amaze me how God works things out if we just put our faith in Him, as I know you do. Take care and I know you are looking forward to a wonderful Christmas together!! Woohoo!

You and your family will continue to be in my thoughts and prayers as you make these adjustments, one day at a time. Hooah!

Your family continues to be in my prayers. I will be thinking of you all and all of the adjustments ahead, especially during this holiday season. I truly believe that you receive back what you give in this world. Your family is an example of that.... Your family has given much, and you deserve every single bit of the help, encouragement, and prayers being sent your way. God bless you all.

I'm relatively new to this site but I've read many of the updates. I just wanted you and your family to know that you have even more prayers than before! I can already tell from the other postings that you, too, appreciate the power of prayer! Godspeed to you all!!

I am so happy for your family and your soldier. As you rehab, you will continue to be in my prayers.

Congrats to Michael! It's really good to hear that things are progressing and you were able to give up that hospital bed.

We will continue to pray for you and your family as you work through the next phase.

WOW! Lots of wonderful news, Mike! Michael is finally an outpatient, and your boss is helping to make things a bit easier. Now, if Michael is allowed at least a pass to go home for Christmas, that would be even more wonderful yet! As always, you all are in my continued thoughts and prayers!

Hugs!

Mike: I am forever amazed at how resillient our brave soldiers are! Congratulations to you and your wife for raising such a fine soldier. You must be so proud! Michael, Travis & Scott will forever be in my heart and my prayers as they continue in the recoveries. Michael's being released from the hospital is truly a blessing and I know he will display the same dedication to his rehabilitation as he has at being a fine representative of our Country. Happy Holidays to you and your family!

Ya know, Mike - LIFE SUCKS!-and then it doesn't. Or at least not as bad as it did before!

I'm coming your way in January - I'll catch up with you! Geeeeeeeeeee.....if I'd known those chopper guys were coming, I'd have rushed right down there!!

All the best as always. I'll keep humming that "I'll be home for Christmas thing for you."

Yvonne
