Travis Majors Update

Nov-20-2004 » Filed Under: Travis Majors

Cindy was able to visit Travis Majors one last time before he was transferred to a hospital in Georgia. Michael Oreskovic (Jr.) was also there catching up with Travis. Provided below is the email she sent to us following the visit. We've also added a few more photos to Travis' album that Mike Oreo took.

HI Todd

When I went to visit with Travis Wednesday night I was delighted to see Mike Oreo visiting with Travis too. My two favorite "fellows!" It was very nice to see the two of them talking and asking about how the other was doing. I delivered a requested Dr. Pepper to Travis and a chocolate milkshake to Mike. I had other milkshakes to deliver before they melted, so I told these guys I would return shortly. Sadly, there are many, many wounded soldiers and more on the way.

When I came back, I had a very nice visit with Travis, and he told me about going to PT earlier in the day before moving on to more "stories" of his younger days. It is always good to chat with him and see him smile while he tells me of pranks he used to pull. I got a huge grin out of him, when I told him I was reporting his stories to the Stryker News (I could, but some of them shock even me) ( o : I was kidding him of course, but he rather liked the idea of his buddies reading about some of the things he got into during his youth. He also reminded me that one day I may even hear about stories of my own son's "adventures." I will miss Travis when he leaves, but have assured him that I have arranged with Yvonne that "Penn" will be taking over where I am having to let go.... Thank you Yvonne! My heart is much lighter knowing that someone will be checking in on Travis.

Thank you, Cindy, for being there for Travis. I wish him well in the next stage of his long journey. If you can furnish a forwarding address for him, I would like to send a note. I was able to visit him once in October. He is certainly an unforgettable person with a positive outlook that not many in his situation could hope to match.

Hello all,
Just a quick note to say hi, and to say that Travis is an inspiration to everyone, as are all the soldiers, whether still fighting, or wounded. They have an inner strength, that many would only dream of having, and that inner strength will get Travis through his struggles. I'm sure of it. I too, am SCI, and Travis...hang in there. We're all here for you. I know it's hard...but YOU WILL BE JUST FINE!!!!
Take care~Donna
