The following is a press release for the Hero to Hero (H2H) project being led by Liz Jackson. Many of the shirts collected last year went to the 3-2 SBCT. This year a number of units with the 1-25 SBCT will receive shirts. Thanks Liz!
Firefighters and Police up and down the I-5 Corridor are giving the shirts off their backs for our deployed troops in the desert.
Lakewood, WA, November 20, 2004: "Hero to Hero" is taking it on the road again! Military family members of deployed troops and returned troops, will join the "Hero to Hero" convoy as it treks both north and south along the I-5 Corridor, to Fire & Police Depts. Firefighters and Police give the shirts off their backs to show their support for our troops deployed to the desert.
This unique morale project for our troops deployed to Iraq, Afghanistan, and Kuwait lets our stateside heroes (Firefighters, Police, EMS, Haz-Mat, CST's, etc) show their support -- with no political intentions- - by giving the shirts off their backs. These shirts, hats & more not only bear the names of the hometowns from where they were sent... equally important, they bear words from the heart written by our stateside heroes, for the troops to keep with them. Out-of-state shirts are sent to a Lakewood, WA address by February, in order to be received in the desert by March 19, 2005. Shirts are collected, inspected, & stored until February, when they are packed out in a big Celebration of Support, and sent to the desert.
In May, "Hero to Hero's" Liz Jackson drove to over 55 cities in a nationwide pledge drive. The trip took just over 3 weeks; she drove over 9,000 miles. "Hero to Hero '05" honors Fallen Heroes & their families. October 23-24, 2004 Ms Jackson led local military families on a mini-version of the national trip, this time it covered 20 eastern Washington cities in just 2 days... the "Washington State Stomp". The Stomp was so well received it will be repeated this Saturday, they Stomp the Corridor in two teams... led by Liz Jackson (North) & Jen West (South).
Watch for more Stomping around the Puget Sound in January. The cross-country trip will happen again in May 2005.
Strykers who received shirts (2/3 Inf), and their families (or families of the troops who will be receiving shirts this time around ...25 BSB, 73rd Eng, 42nd MP Bde...) are invited to join us!
**This is a great way to show the local community, and the state how appreciative our soldiers are for the things they are sent.
We meet at 0800 Saturday, November 20th. Whether the north, or south route... this is a one day trip. Bring your car flags!
