Greetings everyone.
Michael had a pretty good day today. Lots of visitors bearing gifts for Veteran's day which he shared with some of the other guys on the ward. If all goes well, he will have his IV removed next wed. and be free of any attachments that restrict movement. We can hardly wait for him to get outside for a while. He tends to get hit with cabin fever every now and then. :-)
We are starting to feel a bit more comfortable navigating the hospital and surrounding buildings and I plan on posting some pics this weekend. This place is huge and a bit overwhelming to say the least.
Ashley stopped by to say hi and we were so happy to see her again. She is such a sweetie and makes us all smile when she is there. Her mom Cindy and brother stopped by yesterday with a friend from work and we had a great talk. It looks like the girls will be going shopping saturday which means Michael and I will be able to watch some football games uninterupted.
Georganna is doing better this week and I am happy to say she has been able to spend more time with Michael. Even though he won't admit it I can tell he enjoys having MOM around. He has started to talk a bit more about Iraq and he sure misses his buddies. Every time he sees something on the news he wishes he was back over there. Most of the soldiers I have met feel that way, especially those whose units are still in harms way. God bless them all.
Frank and Louise came by today with another member of the 14th cav association, David, and Michael had a great chat with them. These visits sure seem to perk Michael up since he is so interested in military history and to talk to the men who served in the troop in early campaigns fills him with pride and honor to have met them. Michael has such a great respect for the soldiers of previous wars because they did so much with so little back then. Michael knows he would not be here today if it wasn't for the equipment he was wearing and riding in during the time he was there.
Even though today was a day to honor our vets it was lessened a bit due to all the news coverage of other events. Not being able to get outside to visit the different events around DC during this special day sure saddened us all since all we could do was watch TV. Maybe another time we will come back to DC and be able to partake in some of the events in our nation's capitol. However, Michael's cousin Angie, was in a parade today with her scouts proudly displaying their OIF soldier on the side of their float. HOOAH!!! to the troop.
Well, it is getting late and tomorrow is going to be hectic for sure. Since most offices were closed today we have a lot of things to take care of tomorrow. If all goes well, Michael will be discharged from the hospital in a week or two. He can then move over to the Malogne house to continue his stay. It sure will be great to cook him his favorite meals again. (I sure hope we get a room with a cooktop) If not, it will be electric skillet time.
Take care all and thank you so much for all you have done for our family. The prayers, visits, kind wishes and contributions are greatly appreciated. I know it is going to be a long year for us but I also know each of you will be in our prayers. We all have a road in life that takes us to places unknown, but with each others help we can finish the journey with God's help.
Respectfully yours,
Michael and family.
p.s. To all of Michael's troop he says to say he is doing well and wishes you all the best. I have not entered the emails he gave me but I plan on doing that this weekend to send you his best. Suivez Moi
