MNF detain terrorist cell members, continue border patrols

MOSUL, IRAQ (November 5, 2004) – Multi-National Forces from 1st Brigade, 25th Infantry Division (Stryker Brigade Combat Team) detained a large number of individuals suspected of planning and performing anti-Iraqi activities during several operations throughout northern Iraq Thursday.

Soldiers from 3rd Battalion, 21st Infantry Regiment conducted a series of cordon and search operations throughout the Mosul neighborhoods of Al Bareed, Al Kahira, Ninevah Gabat Area, Suez, Al Ilam and Al Bakir where detained members of a terrorist cell responsible for mortar and roadside bomb attacks against security forces. All of the detained individuals remain in custody.

As Soldiers with 2nd Battalion, 14th Cavalry Regiment continue to patrol and prevent terrorists from entering Iraq through the Iraqi-Syrian border, they spotted and detained several individuals illegally crossing the border, approximately 40 kilometers southwest of Sinjar. Multi-National Forces confiscated one rocket-propelled grenade and 12 AK-47s from the individuals who are in custody for questioning.

Multi-National Forces from Task Force Olympia continue to work together with members of Iraqi Security Forces, leaders and citizens of Iraq to make it a safe, prosperous, and democratic nation. Local citizens should cooperate with security forces by providing information that leads to the capture and arrest of anti-Iraqi forces.
