Greetings everyone. First and foremost, I would like to express my sincerest Thank You to all of you, My Stryker Family. The amount of emails, comments, messages and prayers for my family and especially for my son has been more than I could ever have imagined. Although my heart is heavy and burdened by the loss of so many good men from TFO I know they will not be forgotten.
Michael is progressing well and his latest operation was a success. That means he will be heading stateside soon and through the Grace of God and all the prayers and efforts from all of you, his mother and I will be able to be at his side. All I could think of yesterday was Get me off this rollercoaster soon. Then, the phone rang, a few extra emails, and like a miracle, everything fell into place. :-)
We talked to Michael today for a little while and he is sounding pretty good. Still kinda groggy from the anesthesia wearing off, but his spirits are high. He got a visit from 6 congressmen who were visiting the hospital. One of their questions was "What are you going to do when you get back home?" said one of the congressmen. Michael's reply was something along the lines of, " I plan on staying in the Army sir" I would have given anything to have seen the looks on their faces. The duty nurse said they looked a bit taken aback by his answer.
Michael said he talked with Sgt. T1000, ;-) and he is doing well. Prayers are awesome.
Depending on the seriousness of the injured soldiers being transported from Germany, Michael should be heading home by the time most of you read this message. Since he is not critical any more, he may get bumped off the flight. Either way is fine with me, give those in the greatest need the highest priority. They deserve our best efforts.
I will have to echo Steve Thorne's words about the care our soldiers receive from the medical staff at our Army bases. They do their jobs well and for that I am thankful. Other than the occassional blip in the rules and regs differing from one Sgt. to another, we have been very pleased at the way we have been treated on our end when it came to information about our son. Now if we want to get into the travel regs, that would be a whole different discussion and I will not get into that one now. ;-)
Anyway, I just wanted to check in and let everyone know that we are on our way soon. Michael is doing better. God is Great. And the Stryker Brigade Combat Team and their family and friends are the best.
Most respectfully yours,
Michael S. Oreskovic, aka Mike Oreo
