BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (AP) _ Six months after a Bridgeport soldier was killed in Iraq, her hometown dedicated a street in her honor.

About 100 people gathered as Orange Street was dedicated to the memory of Army Spc. Tyanna Avery-Felder on Saturday morning. The 22-year-old city woman was killed on April 7 in Mosul, Iraq, when her convoy vehicle hit an explosive device.

"It means a lot to me to have the community come together today to remember her and the ultimate price she paid. I lost my best friend that day," her husband, Adrian Felder, said. The couple were married for less than two years when she died.

Avery-Felder, a cook with the Army's Stryker Brigade, was based in Fort Lewis, Washington. At the time of her death, she was the 12th Connecticut resident, and first state woman, killed in the fighting.

The dedication drew a number of state and local officials. Avery-Felder grew up in the Orange Street neighborhood, said Councilman Henry Webb, who proposed dedicating the street.

Orange Street also will now be known as Spc. Tyanna Avery-Felder Boulevard.

"The street naming lets everyone know her sacrifice," Webb said. "Kids will ask why her name is on the street sign and parents will be able to tell them who she was and what she did and that we can all be very proud of her."
