MOSUL, IRAQ (September 8, 2004) – The Iraqi Border Patrol soldiers are better equipped after receiving 550 new 9mm hand guns.
“The new weapons will allow the border patrol soldiers to search cars easier,” said Lt. Col. Sabah-Aklawi.
According to Sabah-Aklawi, the 9 mm is more convenient for the soldiers, but it will not replace the AK-47. Distribution of the new hand guns will start with the officers and then senior noncommissioned officers.
In addition to the new hand guns, the soldiers received 650 9mm holsters, 1,700 9mm magazines, and 30,000 AK-47 rounds.
“Each border patrol soldier will use this new equipment during their defense mission,” said Sabah-Aklawi.
Task Force Olympia continues to work with the citizens and leaders of Iraq to make it a safe, prosperous, and democratic nation.
