An update on Yancey Baker, injured last Friday.
By DAN MURTAUGH
A soldier who grew up in Spanish Fort is recovering in Germany after he was badly burned when a car bomb exploded near his unit in Mosul, Iraq, his father said.
Spc. Yancey Ferris Baker, 25, is in a U.S. military hospital in Ramstein, Germany, being treated for an injury to his left eye, as well as second- and third-degree burns on his left arm, shoulder, neck and face, Charlie Baker said Monday.
Baker's injuries are not considered life-threatening, his father said. His parents, Charlie and Debi Baker, and sister, Charebi Baker, live in Spanish Fort.

It has been a few years since we have spoken, and I wish that it was under different circumstances, but I just wanted you to know how much I admire what you have done with your life and how much I appreciate the sacrifices you have made to ensure the safety of the free world. I really hope to see you again in the near future so that I can introduce my daughter to a real hero.
