MOSUL, IRAQ (August 26, 2004) – Iraqi National Guardsmen and Multinational Forces from the 3rd Brigade, 2nd Infantry Division (Stryker Brigade Combat Team)detained eleven people suspected of anti-Iraqi activities in separate operations Wednesday and today.
Guardsmen of the 101st Iraqi National Guard Battalion, with the assistance of Multinational Forces, detained two individuals Wednesday morning while performing a cordon and search operation in the Mosul neighborhood of Al Shorta. Both subjects were wanted for operating a document forgery ring and remain in custody.
Soldiers from the 107th Iraqi National Guard Battalion detained three suspects in the northern city of Shaialah Wednesday while performing a cordon and search for a terrorist suspected of carrying out attacks against Iraqi and Multinational Forces. Three people were detained while attempting to evade soldiers, though the wanted suspect was not among the detained. All three detainees remain in custody.
Soldiers from the 5th Battalion, 20th Infantry Regiment detained one person in Tal Afar Wednesday when they performed a cordon and search for individuals suspected of participating in attacks against Multinational Forces. One person was detained and remains in custody.
Multinational Forces conducted search operations and detained five subjects suspected of being terrorist cell members in Ash Shura today. Soldiers captured two wanted suspects and detained three other individuals. All of the detainees remain in custody.
Local citizens are urged to cooperate with security forces by providing information that leads to the capture and arrest of anti-Iraqi forces. Anyone with information should call the Joint Coordination Center in Mosul at 125 or 513462.
