MOSUL, IRAQ (August 10, 2004) – Responding to a tip from Iraqi security officials, Iraqi Police secured a vehicle containing explosives August 8.

Iraqi Police secured the area until Iraqi and Multinational Forces explosive ordnance disposal teams could arrive at the scene. The vehicle, a maroon sedan, contained four 155mm artillery shells and one 130mm round. The vehicle was packed with PE-4 explosive and remote detonation devices.

The driver was brought to Multinational Forces for interrogation. He was found to be a Saudi national who came to Iraq through the Syrian border using false identification. His intent was to detonate the explosives at the home of a senior KDP official.

The vehicle was disarmed with cooperation between Iraqi and Multinational Forces EOD teams. The suspect remains in the custody of multinational forces.

The reporting of the explosives to the Iraqi Police led to the quick removal of the explosives from the Mosul neighborhood. Anyone with information about anti-Iraqi activities should call the Joint Coordination Center in Mosul at 125 or 513462.
