MOSUL, IRAQ (July 31, 2004) – Members of the Iraqi Police and the Iraqi National Guard destroyed two rockets and two improvised explosive devices Friday in northern Iraq.
Soldiers of the 107th Iraqi National Guard Battalion reported finding an improvised explosive device on the main road from Hamman Al Alil to Qayyarah. They destroyed the device in place without any injuries or damage.
Iraqi National Guard soldiers in the city of Qayyarah found and secured two rockets, which were later destroyed by an explosive ordnance disposal team from the nearby multinational forces base.
An improvised explosive device was discovered by Iraqi Police on the northwest side of Mosul. The police secured the site and an Iraqi explosive ordnance disposal team removed the device.
Since the transfer of sovereignty on June 28, Iraqi Security Forces have taken the lead providing security and stability for their country. These are more examples of the many successes Iraqi Security Forces have had since the transfer of sovereignty.
Local citizens are urged to cooperate with security forces by providing information that leads to the capture and arrest of anti-Iraqi forces. Anyone with information should call the Joint Coordination Center in Mosul at 125 or 513462.
