MOSUL, IRAQ (July 29, 2004) – Iraqi Police and Soldiers from 3rd Brigade, 2nd Infantry Division (Stryker Brigade Combat Team) detained one person wanted for anti-Iraqi activities and foiled a roadside bomb attack Wednesday in Northern Iraq.
Soldiers from 1st Battalion, 23rd Infantry Regiment conducted a cordon search in village of Tall Kayf, north of Mosul, and detained one person wanted for planning and leading attacks on Iraqi Security Forces and multinational forces on June 24 in Mosul. The suspect was taken into custody and no injuries were reported during the operation.
Iraqi Police foiled a roadside bomb attack when they identified a 120mm mortar round attached to a remote detonator near the side of the road in the neighborhood of Al Hadba. The Iraqi Explosive Ordnance Disposal team was notified and they destroyed the device causing no injuries.
Since the transfer of sovereignty on June 28, Iraqi Security Forces have taken the lead providing security and stability for their country. Local citizens are urged to cooperate with security forces by providing information that leads to the capture and arrest of anti-Iraqi forces. Anyone with information should call the Joint Coordination Center in Mosul at 125 or 513462.
It takes awhile for me to recognize the small towns surrounding the larger cities, but after seeing them repeatly. They get my attention now. And if I know them this well..sit and think just what our troops know now. After afew months of that scenery out their sights. Yup. i'm proud of them. god continues to guide them and their efforts.
Catch em' don't kill em' and have to let them out later due to lack of evidence or money handed over by the family. Way to go... keep catching the bad guys! At least they'll be released again so that they could possibly kill us next week.
