KING COUNTY - Susan Sutter is constantly saying "thank you."

"Oh my God, thank you so much!" she says to a person who has just put a bag of food inside a shopping cart outside the Rose Hill Safeway in Kirkland.

For nine hours, people have been giving her food and money for her unusual drive.

Sutter lost her son, Jake Herring, on April 28th when someone threw a hand grenade into the armored Stryker vehicle he was riding in near Mosul, Iraq. The Sergeant with the Stryker Brigade, Second Platoon, C-Company died instantly. Sutter is keeping his memory alive by informally adopting his company in Iraq.

Her plan is to send his company, nicknamed "The Regulars," care packages of items the Army won't issue; up-to-date magazines, snacks, batteries for CD players and flea collars. [...]

"They were brothers to my son, they were the family that we couldn't be because we weren't over there. And as a mom, I've got to take care of them"
