MOSUL, IRAQ (June 28, 2004) – The final donation of care packages to the families of Iraqi police officers killed in action took place June 26 at One West police station in Mosul. Boxes containing toothbrushes, soap, detergent, candy, food and clothing items were given to local families who have lost loved ones fighting terrorists in Iraq.

Sgt. 1st Class Dana Lockhart, the non-commissioned officer in charge of Task Force Olympia’s Provost Marshall’s Office, handed out the boxes of donations sent from police officers and their families in California, Canada, Washington and New York.

More officers lost their lives on June 24 when terrorists attacked four police stations in Mosul with car bombs. Lockhart wants to let the police and their families know that Coalition forces support them and are fighting for the same cause.

Chief Mohamed Barhowie, Mosul police chief, was present during the donation and sent his condolences to the families.

This project is one of the many ways that Coalition forces are working with Iraqi police to increase security and safety in Mosul as June 30, the date for transfer of sovereignty draws closer. The Provost Marshall’s Office has worked closely with the local police to bring new equipment and training to the police in Ninevah province.
